This Fab 1960’s Schreiber Coffee Table is a real Retro Find. With a circular glass top and a Magazine shelf under, but no Schreiber badge, it is a great example of a classic 1960’s Vintage Coffee Table.
This is best described as Schreiber’s version of the fashionable, famous, G Plan “Astro” coffee table! Certainly similar in style although a little more compact; a solid teak frame with a formica circular lower magazine rack and a larger circular frame, again in the formica with a cut out for a glass table top ( the glass is in good condition with no chips and only feint surface scratches, it also has the safety kite mark stamp. )
The combined materials of this coffee table make it a practical coffee table and easy to keep clean. Whilst this may only be formica, there is great grain detail visible on both the top table frame and the magazine shelf below.
This vintage Schreiber “Astro” has been thoroughly cleaned and degreased - we have then oiled the teak frame, this helps enhance and further protects the wood, the formica tops have been polished and glass cleaned ( the glass top sits in the frame, there are no fixings).
There are a few scratches to a small patch on the top of the table - these are shown in the photos. This is a piece from the 70s so, as with most vintage furniture, you will find some wear and tear usually in the form of dints and scratches.

A bit about Schreiber:-
Schreiber furniture was founded in 1957 with its headquarters in Milton Keynes, it was extremely successful brand in furniture manufacturing from the 1960s to the early 70s, challenging its competitors at the time (Lebus and G plan). Schreiber, in its bid for domination, opened Schreiber Furniture Centres.
Always Mr Schreiber to his employees, he treated everyone equally and had a strong sense of what was fair, he disliked bad manners and admired honesty; Schreiber was accordingly able to make good furniture cheaper than any other company.
Schreiber furniture can still be bought in retail shops today but more importantly, we can still purchase these original, modern day, collectible antiques!
