Avalon Yatton Dressing Table/Chest of Drawers with Stool

A vintage dressing table with three drawers and a stool, manufactured by Avalon, a British company based in the town of Yatton, Somerset. The company dates back to the 60s, closing in the late 80s; they also made furniture under the names of Wake & Dean and Yatton Furniture.

In the olden days most of the inhabitants of Yatton would have been employed in agriculture. At the time of the Industrial Revolution, a furniture factory was established, initially manufacturing church pews and school desks.

A charming chest of drawers with fabulous veneers and superb shape. The top drawer is painted in the original cream/white paint and has two black and gold knobs - this drawer is also slightly smaller than the other two. With dovetail joints, the two lower drawers form an angled beehive effect, exaggerating the grain of the veneered fronts not broken up by a handle, these pull from underneath. All the drawers are clean inside, the label is still present in the top drawer, the drawers do run smoothly but the top appears to have dropped slightly and therefore needs to be lifted to slide open the 2nd drawer.

On hardwood (probably beech) cigar shaped legs in cream/white with brass coloured end caps, indicative of the era, a black piping frames the outer edges of this set of drawers.

This Danish influenced piece is a fine example of Mid Century bedroom storage furniture and to further complement this piece there is a stool upholstered in cream/white coloured vinyl, this has been cleaned and re polished and is solid and sturdy; no wobbles (not the original but a very good match).

This piece has been thoroughly cleaned and degreased inside and out,
drawer slides have been given a sand down and coat of polish to help prevent sticking. There are minor dints and some chips to the surfaces of the piece, along with scratches on the brass caps of the legs, as is to be expected of a vintage piece. Please look carefully at the photos as we feel they offer a true representation of this vintage item.
