Antique Primitive Chinese Wooden Rice/Harvest Bucket

Not my usual purchase and certainly a little older but absolutely beautiful and full of history! My research tells me that this is a chinese rice harvest basket, featuring a unique Chinese character on each of its four sides - unfortunately my knowledge of Chinese lettering stops there. I believe it to have hand forged nails and iron brackets which have certainly help preserve its condition and reinforce this container.

Used in 1920s China this Asian/Chinese container could now be useful for all manner of storage options in the modern home.

Measuring 13.75" x 13.75", the box tapers down to an 8.5" square base, reinforced on all four corners with iron, in addition to being reinforced with the handle at the top. The centred carry handle is arched and proud on the top of the basket.

This antique rice harvest basket is in great condition, considering its age, and is still very solid and sturdy. It has an uneven, raw, handcrafted texture, beautifully aged wood and a lovely patina. I have taken pictures of all the sides to get a feel for the characters. I hope someone can use it...?

We offer free delivery on some items within 15 miles of Cambridge and also throughout mainland UK on some items advertised. Where free delivery applies, it is most likely to be hand or courier delivered, so expect it to be between 1 and 3 weeks.
 
Our minimum packaging and delivery cost is £30; larger, heavier, items are likely to be significantly more expensive. For multiple purchases, we will happily discount.
 
We are able to package and export items beyond mainland UK and have done so as far afield as Hong Kong and New Zealand. Please contact us directly for a tailored quotation.
