A beautifully crafted vintage bedside cabinet by renowned British manufacturer Meredew, dating from the late 1950s. Still retaining its original Meredew maker’s badge to the inside of the cupboard door, this is an authentic piece of British Mid-Century furniture offering both quality craftsmanship and reassuring provenance.
Finished in warm light oak veneers with clean, understated lines, this compact cabinet is both practical and timeless. It features a generously sized drawer above a cupboard with a removable internal shelf, providing useful storage for books, electronics or everyday essentials. Its neat, slender proportions make it ideal as a bedside cabinet, but it would also work beautifully as a lamp table or compact storage cabinet in a hallway, living room or home office.
The cabinet is fitted with its original solid brass hinges and matching brass door and drawer knobs, all of which remain in good working order and display an attractive aged patina consistent with their age. The magnetic catch continues to hold the cupboard door securely closed.
This is a substantial, well-built piece, noticeably heavier than many later cabinets, reflecting the quality of British furniture manufacture during the period.
The cabinet is presented in good, clean vintage condition with no loose joints or structural issues. The removable internal shelf is original and lifts out easily if required. There is one blemish to the lower front plinth, which has been photographed and reflected in the price. The drawer front appears to have been repainted by a previous owner at some stage. Prior to dispatch we will professionally refresh it in a similar off-white finish, or, if you would prefer, we are happy to repaint it in an alternative colour of your choice at an additional cost. Please note that choosing a bespoke colour may add a little extra time to dispatch.
A genuine Meredew piece with excellent provenance, combining classic Mid-Century styling with practical everyday storage that remains as useful today as when it was first produced nearly seventy years ago.
