Set of Six HABITAT Cesca Chairs

A set of six stunning Cesca chairs purchased by us from the original owner who purchased the chairs new from Habitat in the early 80s.

This set of six, two carvers and four standard chairs, are in excellent vintage condition and show only minimal signs of wear. The beech wooden frame has no cracks and the original lacquer finish is also in good order. The cane on all the seat pads and back rests is 99% perfect in my opinion and all retain good tension, no sagging! The worst wear is to one of the chrome caps to the top of the tubular frame and there is some mottle rust areas to the base and a slight dulling of the chrome in areas.

Purchased from a HABITAT Store, this set of 6 where bought with the matching table and used in the kitchen for a number of years back in the early 80s; unfortunately the table is long gone and the chairs have only just come out of the loft! As our photos show the chairs appear to have frozen in time and to the owners credit, appear to have been safely stored away!

Very comfortable thanks to the lightweight metal structure that make it flexible; perfect at a desk or studio chair but super stylish as a set of dining chairs and rare to find an original matching set in such fantastic condition having had only one owner from new!

Straight lines, curves and high quality materials are the features of the Cesca chair; a timeless piece of 20th Century furniture intergrating perfectly with today’s retro mix and attracting collectors of mid century furniture.

Marcel Breuer, designer of the Cesca cane chair, is considered one of the fathers of modernism. During his career he was an architect, teacher and furniture designer. With comfort in mind, he chose to use one continuous steel tube in a cantilever style. The chair was named “Cesca “ as a tribute to Breuer’s daughter Francesca.

Breuer married traditional craftsmanship with industrial methods and materials to help make tubular steel furniture an international sensation and become a modern institution. The cantilever form exploits the possibilities unique to the material and gives the chair added flexibility and comfort.

Please bear in mind that all our vintage and retro items have had a life before you purchase them (sometimes quite a long one!) therefore they will show signs of wear and use, these may include knocks, dents and scratches, bumps and scuffs which are commensurate with age and previous use. We never sell items that we wouldn’t be happy to have in our own homes and provide images detailing any significant damage or unusual wear. Safely delivering items you purchase in a timely fashion is both our priority and also one of the most challenging aspects of our business.

Wherever possible, we try to offer free kerbside delivery, contact-free, to most mainland UK addresses, either by ourselves or via our dedicated, trusted, couriers. This ensures that your purchases arrive in exactly the condition they were in when you purchased them, as accurately described on our site. You should expect delivery to be within 1 to 3 weeks of you placing the order. We will contact you directly with a firm delivery date and advise you in advance of a two hour delivery window.

Exclusions to free delivery apply, including where tolls or congestion zone fees apply, for which there will be an additional charge.

Free delivery does not apply to locations a long way away from our location in Cambridge or to areas of mainland UK not routinely covered by our trusted couriers - if this applies to your purchase, we will simply charge you what we are charged for delivery, less any Etsy fees, and notify you of this as soon as practicable after the sale goes through.

We are able to package and export items beyond mainland UK and have done so as far afield as Hong Kong and New Zealand. We regularly export to Northern Ireland and Eire and the majority of Europe. Please contact us directly for a tailored quotation.

When ordering, please supply us with your mobile ‘phone number, so we may liaise directly with you regarding delivery. Please advise if there are any delivery restrictions that will apply (such as anything other than ground floor access, parking and access restrictions etc.). We reserve the right to charge for deliveries outside of our standard terms.
