According to the MoMA, the Wassily chair is among the 10 most important chairs of the 20th century and received an award from the Museum of Modern Art in 1968 and in 1982, it was recognized as a “Piece of Art,” in (West) Germany.
These chairs are in the style of The Wassily chair, also known as the B3 Chair, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 while working at the Bauhaus.
First a student then a teacher at the Bauhaus, Marcel Breuer designed many innovative pieces. His Wassily chair is the most iconic. The design was revolutionary, in the use of material (bent tubular steel) and in the production method. The chair was inspired by a bicycle frame!
The chairs have a polished chrome tube with tan coloured leather seats, backs and arms. The chrome is in good condition with some slight signs of wear, as is the tan coloured leather which is a good thick leather and has worn wonderfully on the arms as shown. Please see our photos for an accurate representation of the condition.
These are an iconic design classic and fits in almost any room as an impressive piece of design as well as a functional object.
Surprisingly comfy!
This piece is attributed to the above-mentioned designer/maker. It has no labels or maker’s marks. Both chairs are in excellent vintage condition but do show signs age and and use, we would estimate these date probably from the 80s. Today, Knoll still manufactures the Wassily chair.
The chairs have been thoroughly cleaned, chrome has been polished and the leather has been treated.
The chairs are £500 each we have a pair available - message us for a discount if it’s the pair you are after!
