A Matching Set of Four MCM Cesca Chairs

This is a matching set of four of the iconic Cesca Chairs; originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928, copied and retailed many times by the likes of Habitat and Parker Knoll and loved back then, throughout the mid-century period and now for their comfortable cantilever tubular steel metal frame and cane back and seat pads.

Stylish and yet again bang on trend, this matching set of four was acquired by us from the original purchaser and has clearly, yet carefully, been well used, this vintage set purchased as boardroom /office chairs remains fit for purpose with relatively minor damage. The cane seat pads, as demonstrated in the photographs, are generally in good order showing only slight sagging from use, the worst being shown in our photos. The chrome frames are in good order with just a few minor scuffs ( and no rust ), with the plastic feet intact; the back rests are in near perfect condition. The hardwood beech frames which are best described as a grey/mushroom colour, are all in good order with only light scuffs scratches and dints, again as our photos show. These are stamped “Made in Italy “ on the underside.

This colouring would most likely have been a custom order so not sure you will see many more around! We actually acquired 6 of these chairs but one of the six needs a full cane replacement, just message us for a discounted price if you are interested in more than 4.

The chairs have been thoroughly cleaned and re polished.

Whilst this set were bought as chairs for the workplace, they are now a popular comfortable stylish choice in the modern Mid Century home!

Marcel Breuer, the Hungarian designer of the cesca cane chair, is considered one of the fathers of modernism. During his career he was a modernist architect, teacher and furniture designer. With comfort in mind, he chose to use one continuous steel tube in a cantilever style. The chair, designed at the Bauhaus, was named “cesca “ as a tribute to Breuer’s adopted daughter, Francesca.

Marcel Breuer married traditional craftsmanship with industrial methods and materials to help make tubular steel furniture an international sensation and become a modern institution. The cantilever form exploits the possibilities unique to the material and gives the chair added flexibility and comfort. This iconic seat features woven cane inserts and a beech frame.

Straight lines, curves and high quality materials are the features of the cesca chair; a timeless piece of 20th Century furniture intergrating perfectly with today’s retro mix and attracting collectors of mid century furniture. Very comfortable, thanks to the lightweight metal cantilever structure that make it flexible; a perfect desk or dining chair.

In most circumstances, we offer free hand delivery, contact-free, kerbside to most mainland UK addresses, either by ourselves or via our dedicated, trusted, couriers. This ensures that your purchases arrive in exactly the condition they were in when you purchased them, as accurately described on our site. You should expect delivery to be within 1 to 3 weeks of you placing the order. We will contact you directly with a firm delivery date and advise you in advance of a two hour delivery window. Exclusions to free delivery apply, including where tolls or congestion zone fees apply, for which there will be an additional charge. Free delivery does not apply to areas of mainland UK not covered by our trusted couriers - if this applies to your purchase, we will simply charge you what we are charged for delivery, less any Etsy fees, and notify you of this as soon a practicable after the sale goes through, giving you the option of a full refund.
 
We are able to package and export items beyond mainland UK and have done so as far afield as Hong Kong and New Zealand. We regularly export to Northern Ireland and Eire and the majority of Europe. Please contact us directly for a tailored quotation.
