Vintage Penny chairs offer a characterful option of seating, they are a useful addition to any home and would not look out of place in a hall or kitchen, generous round seats and spindle backs, this pair have been painted, showing several colours of choice through their lifetime. Boasting beautiful patina, their age dictates that they are are not free of the odd knock and mark but all adding to the character of these wonderful sturdy chairs.
This sort of patina (some strive to replicate ) only occurs after years of wear and tear and usage, we think they look fabulous!
Essentially a Windsor kitchen chair by Swedish maker Ibex , this style being from the late Victorian period and are made from beech and elm, that explains why they are quite heavy!
The pair of chairs are slightly different to each other but a very close match. This is mentioned in our measurements. They were used together in their previous home.
Having now been cleaned and cobwebs dusted off, we can see historic evidence of repairs but both chairs remain solid and sturdy with no loose joints or wobbles. We have added a coat of top wax to preserve the patina and polish.
These types of chair are antique pieces that never go out of fashion.
* We have now also acquired a 3rd chair painted in off white. To complete a set of 4 of these chairs we have now also acquired a pink one!
