Sorry, this item has sold.

Whether you have heard of McIntosh or not, the brand’s reputation as one of the key British furniture designers of the last century puts them front and centre when you decide that it’s time for a mid-century revival in your home. Like all of McIntosh’s furniture, the tables are hard wearing, clean and deceptively simple in style, therefore suitable for almost any kind of interior theme.

McIntosh was originally formed in the late 1800s in Scotland. From the brand’s first humble factory in Kirkcaldy, Fife, it expanded to become one of the world’s most influential manufacturers of home and office furniture. In the 1870s, McIntosh participated in exhibitions around the world and cemented their position as an ultra high-quality manufacturer of world-class furniture. Alongside Ercol and G-Plan, McIntosh was among the leading mid-century furniture businesses to bring form and function to homes around the UK and, indeed, further afield.

A beautifully designed and crafted rectangular, teak, extending dining table, designed by Tom Robertson for A.H. McIntosh in the 1960s, this was acquired with the set of chairs in the photos but we have listed these separately however happy to discount if bought as a set.

McIntosh tables often featured extendable sections which, although commonplace today, were a distinctly modern feature of the era. While such practical additions briefly fell out of fashion throughout the 80s and 90s, they have seen a revival thanks to their practicality of conserving space in modern apartments and smaller houses. Pull-out tables and extending sections help save space within the family home.

This table extends quickly and easily by simply pulling the two halves apart, revealing the hidden leaf which swivels upwards via an internal butterfly mechanism; the table can then be pushed back together to achieve the desired size. When extended, the leaf slots neatly into the table with locating brass dowels and sockets. The McIntosh badge can be seen clearly here, providing authenticity of this piece.

A fabulous and functional Classic Mid Century extending dining table by McIntosh. The metal label is still attached on the underside of the middle extending leaf as proof of authenticity. This table was designed by Tom Robertson in the late 1960s, whilst rectangular it has a sleek curved design to its longest edges with exceptional workmanship, attractive grain detail showing only light sign of use.

With its distinctive Scandinavian shape this is a mid century designer dining table that’s a bit of a show stopper, having the ability to extended to comfortably seat eight but compact when there are fewer diners. A Christmas table that’s sure to suit most families, as well as holding its value as a McIntosh Mid Century antique of the future.
